Labor of cooking weekend

This Labor Day we celebrated the labor of cooking. We made this great diner meal and some delicious cupcakes. The recipe is from the Donna Hay magazine from last month. It's really easy, just make a vanilla or white cupcake recipe but use brown sugar instead of white, then whip cream with some Butterscotch Schnapps or butterscotch flavouring then pour over a simple butter caramel. The cupcake part was a bit heavy. I need to figure out a good basic vanilla & chocolate cupcake recipe instead of following the whole recipe like this one and being unhappy with the cake portion.

The most fun this weekend turned out to be our trip to see the Yarn Harlot on Sunday at Third Place Books in Shoreline. It was worth sitting on the most uncomfortable chairs amongst the worst cackling session since Chicken Run. I will post those pic's tomorrow as well as some Houseplant pic's.

Please don't ask about the room!

Yes I've been a very bad girl. Moved the furniture back in the Sewing/Craft/Guest room then proceeded to just leave everything in dissaray and do a couple of sewing projects. Then I get a bladder infection from hell and have been mostly knitting and watching the Food Network in HD.. this will be my downfall I am sure. I will not watch Rachel Ray in HD though because she will irritate me even more. I will be posting a side rant on this issue but my big problem with her " E V O O " followed by the ( You are probably not smart enough to figure out WTF I speak of so I will translate for you_ " THAT'S EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL ", Da really?

Anyhow, check out my latest distraction projects.. I felted a planter since I went around Bellingham in one of those, drive to every conceivable store and not find it trances and came home and knitted what I wanted and felted it. I am sure my dearly departed mother had a hand in giving me inspiration. She had given me this cute sea shell hanging planter then tried to find me another one (garage sales of course) and couldn't but found broken one so the felted part at the bottom was a way for me to use that broken one. The other project is this little thread catcher bag I made for Neil's sister-in-law Lynn. I entered it in the NW WA Fair and won a blue ribbon and a checque for $4.. not too shabby.

Room renovation

Today we are wrapping up the room renovation. Yes, the rearranging of furniture and cleaning of this room turned into a lot more. We moved most of the crap out. Painted the end walls, added some electrical outlets, got a bigger lcd tv and removed some furniture. Tomorrow we should be moving everything back in and touching up the paint that we have scraped off! Pictures will accompany that post!

Shrinky Pins, yeah don't start. They will control you as I am sure that is what the evil hive mind bloggers had in mind.

Sewing table 'before' photo June 2006

Welcome to my blog. I am starting this blog because the one I had at .mac costs dollars and those can be used to buy yarn, fabric, gas to drive to yarn & fabric stores etc. How wasteful. I have tried for about 2 weeks to get a photo uploaded because I knew I wanted a visual blog. Now it has 2 of my title pictures. I'll work it out. My first real project to blog about is the restoration of the spare bedroom into a craft room with a bed in it. My sewing table is the worst part of the whole mess. I will try and post a 'before' pic today. If not it will eventually get posted with a 'after' pic too!

Welcome to Sheila na Blog
